Welcome to my blog! I am Lou, owner and designer of Lou’s Labors. I am an middle school orchestra teacher by day, and a creative crocheter by night. I am happily married to my husband since June 2008. We have two lovely mixed breed dogs, Gus and Martha, and live in North Texas. I love to make handmade crocheted items and look forward to sharing them with you here.
Most of what I make are amigurumi – small crocheted stuffed animals or anthropomorphized objects. I really love these little guys for their extreme cuteness! I call them “Amis” for two reasons. First it’s short for amigurumi, and second, it is the French word for friend. I will be sharing pictures of my creations that are both my patterns and patterns from other people.
I also enjoy making wearables – scarves, hats, gloves, shawls, etc. This past winter, I started making a line of children’s hats that have ear flaps and animal themes, which I think are adorable, and I will be sharing with you very soon.
Finally, I make blankets. They take forever, and I often get tired of making them, so they don’t get as much attention as they should, but I always love them when they are finished.
I take care with my projects that they are well-crafted. All edges are finished, loose ends are woven in so that they are washable. All wearables and blankets are machine washable, and usually dryable, but sometimes have to be air dried. All Amis are hand wash only and air dry. I try to be eco conscious with my hobby, and use the yarn scraps from my projects as stuffing for other projects.
Thank you for letting me share my hobby and my business with you! I hope you enjoy my crocheted projects as much as I do!
